Armed with a longer reach, Moloney boxed from the distance and kept Astrolabio at bay with his jabs and some occasional heavy blows, rendering the Filipino’s punching prowess useless in the 12-round affair.
The 32-year-old Aussie, who dictated much of the tempo of the fight, had the two judges scoring 115-113 and 116-112 in his favor while the other had a 114-114 scorecard.
Moloney emerged as the busier of the two in the early rounds, making sure to keep his distance with his jabs although Astrolabio managed to sneak in few solid punches including a solid uppercut in the first round.
Astrolabio did show his counter-punching skills, perfectly timing Moloney on the way in with a right uppercut that obviously stunned the Australian in the third round.
That was basically it for Astrolabio, however, as Moloney came back roaring with a left hook and a couple of more 1-2 combinations to turn the table to his favor in the next few rounds.
The Australian controlled the match from the distance with his deadly jabs hurting the Filipino, even landing a flush right hand on Astrolabio who couldn’t find any angle to deliver a counter left hook or uppercut.
The Filipino tried to be the aggressor in the latter rounds but Moloney's footwork allowed him to easily get out of Astrolabio's range before scoring a couple of more crisp jabs to keep him at bay.
