14 persons arrested for ‘illegal quarrying’


Fourteen persons, who were reported to be workers of Rodrock Aggregates Corporation, have been arrested in Rodriguez in Rizal province for alleged illegal quarrying.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 4, that the provincial government of Rizal has issued a “Stoppage Order” against all quarrying and mining activities within the province.

Those arrested were identified by the NBI as Dadis E. Perselin, Randell C. Salac, Mark Benley R. Ramos, John Francisco T. Rellores, Ricardo F. Hernal, Prudencio L. Mira, Joel D. Agner, Edelberto T. Cillo, Joebert M. Villeza, Aldrin S. Mirasol, Leo E. Gallado, Jay M. Agner, Peter G. Sordivillo, and Dennis E. Luzara

The operation that led to the arrest of the workers were conducted by agents of the NBI’s Environmental Crimes Division (NBI-EnCD) on request of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB) Region IV-A, the NBI said.

It said its agents were accompanied during the operation by representatives of DENR-MGB Region IV-A.

Those arrested were charged with violations of Section 103 of Republic Act No. 7943, the Philippine Mining Act of 1995, it also said.

Neither those charged nor Rodrock Aggregates Corporation could be contacted for comment as of posting.
