The vessel, named after Teresa Magbanua – a Filipino school teacher who participated in all three resistance movements in Philippine history: Against Spain (in the Philippine Revolution), the United States (in the Philippine-American War), and Japan (in World War II) – was built in Japan.

The PCG will deploy the vessel not only in Central Visayas waters, but also in Negros Oriental.

The deployment of the vessel in the region is part of the regular conduct of maritime patrol to intensify the enforcement of maritime laws related to safety, security, and environmental protection in Central Visayas, said PCG Lt. Niño Jhanus Aniban, commander of the Coast Guard Station-Negros Oriental.

Aniban disclosed that the vessel will dock at the port of Dumaguete City tentatively from April 27 to 30.

During the period, Aniban said officers and crew of BRP Teresa Magbanua will host an open house to all maritime stakeholders, local government units of Negros Oriental, and other interested individuals to showcase the newest and largest vessel of the PCG.
