2 ‘illegal recruiters’ arrested

Two alleged illegal recruiters have been arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation’s Anti-Human Trafficking Division (NBI-AHTRAD) during an entrapment operation in Pasay City last March 28.

In a statement, the NBI identified those arrested as Herlyn Gatchalian and Maricel Gorospe Calipdan who were charged with estafa under the Revised Penal Code (RPC) and violations of Republic Act No. 8402, the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995, as amended by RA 10022.

It said AHTRAD acted on complaints for illegal recruitment.

“Verification made with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) revealed that the above-named Subjects are not licensed/authorized to recruit workers for overseas employment,” it said.

“Upon handing over of the entrapment money to Subject Gatchalian, NBI-AHTRAD operatives immediately approached the Subjects and placed them under arrest,” it also said.
