Chicken of the Woods (Laetiporus sp.) is a variety of mushroom known for its vibrant yellow-orange color. It is commonly found near alive or dead oak, yew, cherry, and chestnut trees in the forest. It can also grow in parks and on structures. This mushroom variety typically grows between 5 to 50 centimeters in size and can weigh up to 45 kilograms.

Despite its strong smell, many people still love munching on the Chicken of the Woods because, as its name suggests, it tastes like fried chicken. Some folks even say that it tastes more like a lobster or crab than chicken. Despite the differences in flavor perception, many find this wild mushroom delicious, especially as an alternative to chicken meat.

Beginner foragers also like the mushroom because it is easily identifiable in the forest, however, the public is still cautioned from randomly picking mushrooms because there might be look-alikes that could be toxic. Even the Chicken of the Woods, if not cooked properly, can cause allergies in some individuals.
