NBI arrests ‘trafficker of Filipinos to Cambodia’

An alleged illegal recruiter has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for her reported involvement in the trafficking of Filipinos to Cambodia.

The NBI identified her as Mona Almerah Kozay who was intercepted by immigration officers with her alleged trafficking victims at NAIA Terminal 1.

“After investigation, NBI-NAIA apprehended Subject Kozay and was presented for inquest proceedings on March 3, 2023 before the Inquest Prosecutor of Pasay City for violation of Section 4-A (Attempted Trafficking in Persons) of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended, and violation of R.A. 8042 (Large Scale Illegal Recruitment),” the NBI said in a statement.

It said that prior to Kozay’s arrest, it received information that “certain individuals are about to depart at NAIA Terminal 1 bound for Singapore but are actually bound for Cambodia for employment in offshore gaming.”

“The information was relayed to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to place alert on the said individuals,” it said.

“Upon arrival of the said individuals in NAIA Terminal 1, BI Officers denied their departure and, together with their courier Subject Kozay, they were turned-over to NBI-IAID (International Airport Investigation Division),” it added.
