This burger joint is so underrated and often overlooked

When I see these items, it is close to impossible I will not drop by to try them—hamburger, fried chicken, and ribs!

But my cravings vary. I can have a Big Mac attack one moment and a McChicken with extra veggies the next. It could be a Double Whopper with Cheese or a large Plant-Based Whopper or a Plant-Based Long Chicken at Burger King. Just this lunch I had a Double Yum and a Jolly hotdog. All these hit the spot when I crave for them. There are moments I like to go for a more sophisticated burger like Shake Shack’s. I love the Shack Burger and the Chicken Shack. I noticed though that there seems to be a difference in taste with the branches here than the ones abroad. Somehow the one in Osaka, for example, is a lot better.

On weekends, I will occasionally indulge in a Hungry Homies burger. This I order online with my kids and we have a feast.

Because there are so many food items to choose from, there is a tendency to overlook the very good ones. Just outside our village, a burger shop opened a few years ago. Of course, I paid a visit. I thought it offered some of the best burgers around. But over the years, I forgot about them. POPS Beyond Better Burgers is a family-run business and the whole family is involved. Dad Ricky—Pops he is called—is always there making sure everything is perfect. To me, this place is so underrated, often overlooked. Many times, I think of all the many places to dine or order from, when POPS is just right outside my village, hidden at the Petron station on Katipunan.

The POPs burger starts with a nice soft, not too large bud. Each burger is a perfect fit into the bread and every bite will have a balance of meat and bread. (I hate it when burger patties are not the same size as the bread). The burger is plump, beefy, tasty, and just delicious. With sliced tomato, lettuce with some special sauce, this to me is my burger of choice these days. Perfect definition of a good, simple straightforward burger.

MOO Melt is the all-time favorite at POPS. It is an Angus beef burger with melted cheddar, crisp letrtuce, fresh tomato, and homemade house dressing. Add a slice of crispy bacon and then there too is another favorite of mine—the FAB Chicken sandwich. All meat lightly breaded fried chicken with honey barbecue sauce and that perfect bun.

Now every time I exit my village, I always look to my right to see if POPS is open. I love your burger POPS!

Happy holidays and have a good time eating!
