The Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) chapter elections nationwide pushed through and were generally peaceful, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday, Dec. 16.

DILG Secretary Benjamin “Benhur’’ Abalos Jr. said that there were no untoward incident reports submitted to the DILG pertaining to the LnB chapter elections.

Earlier, the group issued LnB Memorandum Circular (MC) Nos. 2023-001 and 002 requiring the full payment of membership dues on or before August 31, 2023 before they can participate in the chapter elections.

But Abalos immediately conferred with the LnB which prompted the latter to issue LnB MC 2023-10 removing the requirement of paying membership dues as a prerequisite for participation in the elections.

In an advisory dated Dec. 14, Abalos said the LnB chapters need only to update their Liga membership dues before they can participate in the provincial, regional and national elections next year.
