983 new corrections officers to undergo training -- BuCor

A total of 983 newly hired corrections officers will undergo training at the different prison and penal farms where they would be assigned, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

In a statement, BuCor said the turnover ceremony for the newly hired corrections officers was held last Tuesday, Nov. 28.

“C/CInsp. Lucio C. Guevarra, the acting director of CNTI (Corrections National Training Institute), has confirmed and accepted the 983 CO1/T who will undergo their COCBC (Corrections Officer Custodial Basic Course) in their respective operating prison and penal farms (OPPF),” BuCor said.

“The decentralization of training will be beneficial for the trainees as it will reduce their expenses, will be close to their homes, and will boost their morale,” it said.

Out of the 983 trainees, the BuCor said 514 are from the bureau’s national headquarters in Muntinlupa City; 191 from Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF); 82 from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF); 77 from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF); 62 from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm; and 57 from Leyte Regional Prison (LRP).

Last Nov. 6, a total of 502 CO1s graduated at the BuCor after undergoing a six-month training.

During the graduation ceremony, BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. urged the new graduates to help him improve the image of the agency.

“Kailangan maibalik natin ang respeto sa atin sa BuCor (We need to bring back respect to the BuCor),” Catapang said.
