Tarlac bishop dies due to cardiac arrest — CBCP


The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced the death of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Tarlac in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Bishop Enriquez Macaraeg died “from an apparent cardiac arrest” in his hometown in Malasiqui in Pangasinan.

He was 67.

CBCP said Macaraeg reportedly passed out on the court during a basketball tournament in his hometown.

The bishop was ordained priest at the Lingayen-Dagupan archdiocese in 1979.

He was also appointed Bishop of Tarlac by Pope Francis in 2016.

He was also the chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity at the time of his death. (Erika Mariel Custodio Escover)
