Pulse Asia’s September survey revealed high approval and trust ratings for President Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte, but these ratings were significantly lower than in June.

Most Filipino adults remain appreciative of the quarterly performance of the President and Vice President (65 percent and 73 percent, respectively) in the survey results released on Monday, Oct. 2.

“Both government officials also record majority approval scores in all geographic areas (60 to 73 percent and 63 to 87 percent, respectively) and socio-economic groupings (53 to 68 percent and 54 to 76 percent, respectively),” Pulse Asia said.

Despite maintaining majority approval scores at the national level and across various regions and socio-economic classes, the President and Vice President experienced significant “erosions” in their approval ratings from June to September 2023 (80 to 65 percent and 84 to 73 percent, respectively), Pulse Asia pointed out.

“Levels of approval for the President’s work decline in the Philippines as a whole (-15 percentage points) and in all areas and classes (-14 to -15 percentage points and -12 to -29 percentage points, respectively),” it said.

“As for the Vice President, her approval ratings drop at the national level (-11 percentage points) as well as in Metro Manila (-12 percentage points), the rest of Luzon (-13 percentage points), Class ABC (-18 percentage points), and Class D (-11 percentage points),” it added.

Trust ratings down

Majority trust ratings are also enjoyed by President Marcos and Vice President Duterte in September 2023 (71 percent and 75 percent, respectively).

“The President and the Vice President record majority trust scores in every geographic area (68 to 77 percent and 64 to 92 percent, respectively) and socio-economic grouping (56 to 74 percent and 61 to 77 percent, respectively),” Pulse Asia said.

However, the survey revealed a nationwide decrease in trust in President Marcos and Vice President Duterte from June to September 2023 (85 to 71 percent and 87 to 75 percent, respectively), with the President’s scores declining in Luzon, Visayas, and all socio-economic classes.

“Trust in the President and the Vice President eases at the national level from June 2023 to September 2023 (-14 and -12 percentage points, respectively). Furthermore, the President’s trust scores decline in the rest of Luzon (-20 percentage points), the Visayas (-13 percentage points), and every socio-economic class (-13 to -21 percentage points). In the case of the Vice-President, trust in her becomes less notable in the rest of Luzon (-18 percentage points) and Class D (-13 percentage points),” it said.

Pulse Asia conducted the nationwide survey from Sept. 10 to 14, involving 1,200 adults aged 18 and above.

The survey had a ± 2.8 percent error margin at the 95 percent confidence level.

Subnational estimates for Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao had a ± 5.7 percent error margin at the same 95 percent confidence level.
