No trouble between Jews, Muslims in Cebu City amid Israel-Hamas conflict, police say


CEBU CITY –  Police here have been in close communication with the Jewish and Muslim communities amid the ongoing war in Israel.

Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of the chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, said they had a dialog with the leaders of the Jewish and Muslim communities in this city.

Pelare assured that there is no trouble brewing between the Muslim and Jewish communities in Metro Cebu stemming from the current war between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas.

He said the PRO-7 has also provided security to the leaders of the respective groups.

“There are police escorts being given or being deployed in some communities just to make sure that there are proactive interventions towards this,” said Pelare.

Pelare said areas in Metro Cebu where there are Muslim and Jewish communities are being closely monitored.

“I would like to emphasize we have not monitored any type of information that would suggest that there is an escalation in our area,” said Pelare.

Pelare assured  that Metro Cebu remains safe, describing the Muslim community as “peace-loving people.”

He  added that the Muslim community has been very cooperative whenever there are significant events happening  in Metro Cebu.

“We don’t have problems with our Muslim community. They are very cooperative in our efforts to have peaceful city,” said Pelare.
