The Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila dipped to 2.9 percent as of Jan. 18, said OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David on Friday, Jan. 20.

In an update posted on social media, David said the positivity rate in Metro Manila was at 4.7 percent on Jan. 11.

Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from those who were tested for Covid-19.

The WHO recommended that the positivity rate should remain at 5 percent or less to show that the spread of the virus is under control.

According to David, the average daily cases in Metro Manila dropped from 166 on Jan. 12 to 103 on Jan. 19.

He also said that Metro Manila’s reproduction number—or the average number of secondary infections—fell to 0.73.

A reproduction number of less than 1 shows a decrease in infections.

Moreover, David said that the average daily attack rate or incidence rate of Covid-19 in Metro Manila was at 0.71 percent 100,000 population.

“Testing in the National Capital Region has decreased to just 38 per day per 100,000, the lowest since 2020,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, hospital bed and ICU bed occupancy in Metro Manila remained“low” at 24 percent and 19 percent, respectively.
