Calatagan, Batangas reports no significant damage from magnitude-6.3 earthquake


CALATAGAN, Batangas – Mayor Peter Oliver Palacio here reported no significant damage from the magnitude-6.3 earthquake that rocked this town on Thursday morning, June 15.

Palacio said that the municipal engineering team has been sent to check the municipal hall and other structures here.

He said that government offices remain open and some schools in this town have suspended classes.

Palacio warned residents to be on alert for aftershocks.

The Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office has sent a team to this town to assess affected areas, properties, and residents.

The Office of Civil Defense 4-A has issued safety measures and coordinated with the local DRRMC following the earthquake.

At the Batangas provincial capitol in Batangas City, employees executed the evacuation plan as the earthquake struck at 10:19 a.m.

Nobody was reported killed or injured in the earthquake but the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is conducting an assessment.

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said power transmission services remain stable despite the earthquake.

The grid remains intact as there are no reported cases of power interruptions and damaged transmission facilities in areas where the earthquake was felt, NGCP said.
