Big business vows value chain support to millennial farmers
At a glance
Millennial farmers will now be getting "complete" value chain support from big private companies, as the government establishes the Kapatid Angat Lahat for Agriculture Program (KALAP).
In a recent memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. , who is concurrently Agriculture secretary, said the private sector-led initiative KALAP will enable farmers, including the younger ones, as well as micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to become "more productive, profitable, sustainable and globally competitive."
"We will be able to say [to] our millennial farmers [that they] are using the best technologies with the complete support of a value chain that supports them and that supports their needs," Marcos said.
“One day, we will do this but we need all of you and we need everyone in our society to pull together to be able to do this,” he went on.
With KALAP, Marcos explained, large corporations will serve as “big brothers” to these millennials by giving them access, mentorship, and support.
“So this is my dream as it is. I am sure of all of your dreams and I hope that little by little we will achieve that dream,” he expressed.
The President also called on MSMEs, farmers, and fisherfolk to continue improving their operations and aspire for expansion, as he highlighted the support that the private sector can after the MOA was signed.
