It's back to school for former Quezon City congressman Alfred Vargas who is now pursuing his doctorate degree at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
"Yes, after finishing my masters in public administration in UPNCPAG in 2021, I took the entrance exam of the college last year naman (2022). I passed it, and I am now pursuing my PhD in UPSURP (UP School of Urban and Regional Planning) to become an urban planner," said Alfred during a recent interview.
The actor added: "It’s a long journey which will probably take me 4-5 years because I’ll first have to get my urban planning diploma for the first two years, then masters for urban planning for another year, then my PhD for another 1-2 years, depending on my schedule."

Alfred, 43, said that he loves being a student once again, adding that learning is a never-ending process. He even shared some photos on social media on his first day of school at the state university.
"I get a lot of insights and wisdom from my professors and classmates which I can apply as public servant. Learning is an everyday process. It should never end. I think I’ll continue to study, study, and study until I’m a senior citizen!" the former politician said.
Alfred added: "I finished AB Management Economics in Ateneo de Manila as my undergrad course. Then finished my MPA in UPNCPAG. And I will do everything I can to get that PhD from UPSURP in the next few years. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to study in two of the best universities in our country."

When he enrolled in UP, Alfred said that he met a lot of wonderful people. He even brought red roses and gave it to the ladies in the campus on Valentine's Day.
"I met so many lovely people in UP Diliman during enrollment... So I thought of giving them roses for V-Day! Happy V-Day, everyone!" wrote the public servant in the caption of the video.
