The northeast monsoon will prevail over Luzon, while localized thunderstorms may affect parts of Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said that the northeast monsoon or amihan has re-intensified and is expected to further strengthen in the next few days.

Because of this, some parts of the country may again experience cold weather in the next few days, he pointed out.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy weather with light to occasional heavy rains will prevail over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon due to the amihan.

The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light amihan rains.

Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Although most of the country will experience fair weather, Badrina still advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flooding or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
