Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said the Department of Justice (DOJ) is organizing a class of 35 medical doctors to undergo training on forensic pathology under the tutelage of forensic expert Dr Morris Tidball-Binz, also the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Killings.

Dr. Tidball-Binz arrived in the Philippines last Monday, Feb. 6, and will be in the country until Feb. 8. He was invited by Remulla, not as the UN Special Rapporteur, but as a forensic expert.

Remulla said that Tidball-Binz will return to the Philippines in May or August this year to help in the capacity building program for Filipino forensic pathologists.

“We’re looking forward when he comes back,” he said. “We would have already prepared a class for 35 medical doctors,” he added.

Aside from medical doctors, Remulla said that government prosecutors will be asked to join the training under Dr. Tidball-Binz.

“The capacity building is not only for forensic pathology but also with investigative work,” he explained.

The training will be funded bythe UN Joint Program with the Philippines.
