After a surprise and mandatory drug tests, all personnel of the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan were found “negative” of illegal drugs use, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.

In a statement, BuCor said the drug tests were conducted last Jan. 31 on all IPPF’s workforce and personnel in its four sub-colonies.

“The whole workforce of the personnel population was subjected themselves to a surprise mandatory drug testing which yielded negative result for illegal drug abuse,” it said.

“The Acting Director General, General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr., through the Superintendent IPPF C/CInsp. Gary A. Garcia, continuously ensure a drug-free workplace policy and supports the government's effort to combat illegal drugs through such initiatives,” it added.

The BuCor’s 2022 record shows that the IPPF has around 250 personnel.

“The drug testing was conducted through urine collection and was administered by the IPPF Medical Team with the assistance from the City Health Office of Puerto Princesa City,” it said.
