2 men shot dead in Batangas


A 53-year-old barangay tanod and a sugarcane plantation worker were shot dead in separate incidents by unidentified assailants in Batangas province on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Barangay tanod Sorbeto Quinto, a resident of Barangay Wawa, Batangas City, was about to enter his house when the suspect approached him from behind and shot him once in the head at around 9 p.m. He was declared dead on arrival at the Golden Gate Hospital in Batangas City.

Arnold Cullamar, 36, a sugarcane plantation worker, single, and a resident of Sitio Pinalayan, Barangay Magabe, Balayan town, was gunned down while he sleeping inside his house at around 8:20 p.m. and died on the spot.

His body was discovered by his brother Gabriel who reported the killing to the police. A fired caliber .45 cartridge case was recovered at the scene.

Police have yet to determine the motives and identities of the suspects.
