United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Killings Dr. Morris Tidball-Binz is expected to be in the Philippines this February, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Monday, Jan. 30.

During the “Laging Handa” public briefing, DOJ Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV said that Dr. Tidball-Binz has been invited by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla

Clavano said that on request of Remulla, Dr. Tidball-Binz “will look into our processes and the conduct of investigations” in relation to extrajudicial killings (EJKs).

“When he comes here ipapakita natin lahat kung saan na yung mga investigation natin, ano yung mga status nung mga kaso and we are confident makikita niya na meron naman tayo ginagawa (we will show him all including the status of investigations and we are confident that he will see we are doing something),” Clavano said.

Last December, he said that UN Special Rapporteur on the Sale and Sexual Exploitation of Children Mama Fatima Singhateh was in the Philippines.

And this is what we expect will happen with Tidball-Binz),” he said.

During her visit, Singhateh was also able to meet with Secretary Remulla, he also said.

We condone those inhuman actions (We met with Singhateh, a representative of the UN, to put an end on online sexual exploitation of children here in the Philippines. This abuse became widespread during the pandemic. We shared plans to fight and punish those committing the crime),” Remulla said after his meeting with Singhateh.
