Five persons have been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for alleged sex trafficking in a karaoke bar in Angeles City, Pampanga.

In a statement issued on Friday, Jan. 20, the NBI identified those arrested as Edlyn Novenario, James Martinez Huang, Llewelen Martinez, and Korean nationals Kang Min Su and Ming Gudu.

It said they were arrested last Monday, Jan. 16, by agents of its Central Luzon Regional Office (NBI-CELRO) at the LV Platinum KTV Bar which is owned by Huang.

“The case stemmed from the information received by NBI-CELRO that LV Platinum KTV Bar, located at Block 8, Lot 19, Mekong St. Riverside Subdivision, Anunas, Angeles City, Pampanga, was being utilized in the operation and maintenance of a prostitution den,” the NBI said.

It said the karaoke bar has been “employing women to engage in escort prostitution in exchange for money... ranging from P20,000 to P30,000.”

An agent of NBI-CELRO posed as a customer and one of the women presented was a minor who was rescued, it also said.

Those arrested have been charged with violations of Republic Act No. 9208, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, and with prostitution under the Revised Penal Code (RPC).

The NBI said the Angeles City Prosecutor’s Office has recommended the filing of criminal charges in court.
