Remulla to son: ‘Wish you further redemption’

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla on Friday, Jan. 6, expressed hope that his eldest son will be able to redeem himself after the Las Pinas City regional trial court (RTC) dismissed the drug charges against him.

“On the ground of reasonable doubt,” Juanito Jose D. Remulla III was acquitted of possession of illegal drugs charge in a decision handed down by Judge Ricardo A. Moldez II. Juanito was immediately released from detention.

“I wish my son further redemption in the future,” Remulla told journalists covering the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Juanito was arrested at his home in Las Pinas City on Oct. 11, 2022 after accepting a package containing marijuana weighing 893.91 grams during an entrapment operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Following his son’s arrest and detention, Secretary Remulla issued statements that he would not interfere in the case.

In the meantime, Juanito still has to face a drug importation complaint before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the same PDEA operation.
