The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Dec. 19 that the combined effect of the shear line and trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) will bring rains over parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

In a weather advisory issued at 11 a.m. on Monday, PAGASA said that moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Romblon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Bicol Region, Caraga, and Davao Region.

Light to occasional heavy rains may also affect Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Capiz, Aklan, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, and Soccsksargen.

“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides as possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highy susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.

PAGASA advised the public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with light rains due to the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan.”
