A total of 441 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City has been vaccinated against influenza, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Sunday, Dec. 11.

Also, BuCor said that 18 CIW personnel got their influenza vaccines which were administered by the Mandaluyong City’s Health Office and the Barangay Health Center.

It said the vaccination against influenza is being undertaken “to strengthen the resistance of PDLs against infection and combat viral respiratory illnesses that may result in major medical complications.”

“As health is also the Bureau's top priority, CIW Acting Superintendent CSInsp. Elsa Martorillas expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Health Services Unit of CIW, the Mandaluyong City Health Department, and volunteers who ensured the effectiveness and safety of influenza vaccines, particularly for the vulnerable PDLs of the institution,” BuCor said.

As of July 30, 2022, BuCor said that 94.99 percent of its almost 50,000 PDLs in its prison facilities have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

A total of 35,700 PDLs has received their Covid-19 booster shots, it said.

Aside from PDLs, about 95 percent of almost 5,000 BuCor personnel have also been vaccinated against Covid-19, it added.
