PAO to public: Join 18-day campaign to end violence against women in PH

Public Attorney's Office

Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida V. Rueda-Acosta on Tuesday, Nov. 29, urged the public to unite and join the campaign to respect and protect women.

“Magsama-sama tayong tumindig sa pagprotekta sa lahat ng kababaihan at sa lahat ng taong mayroong dignidad na dapat nating igalang (Let us join together in protecting all women and every person who have dignity we should respect),” Acosta said in her message on the annual 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW).

Acosta said: “Hindi kailanman masusupil ang anumang suliranin kung tayo ay watak-watak, kung tayo ay hindi makikiramdam at magtitiwalang magagawa natin ang ating mithiin ng sama-sama at magkakaalakbay (we can never overcome problems if we are not united, and we do not feel and trust the we can fulfill our aims together).”

“We must therefore unite as a nation building a better country beginning at home, and in the service delivery of every government office in this country,” she said.

This is also not about health issues like how we deal with the worldwide pandemic),” she pointed out.

“Ang lahat ng bagay ay magkaka-ugnay at dapat nating maipabatid na ang usapan sa pang-aabuso ay may malaking epekto sa pangkalahatan (Everything is connected and we need to recognize the effects of abuses to everyone),” she said.

She assured that the PAO is “certainly one with the whole government in ending all forms of violence against women, and against any person.”

“We are here to fulfill our mandate and is united with the constitutional recognition and protection of human rights and dignity,” she added.

In line with Proclamation 1172 issued in 2006, the country holds yearly an 18-Day Campaign to End VAW from Nov. 25 to Dec. 12.
