Construction of housing units for 4,000 ISFs in Batangas starts

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has started a housing project in Tanauan City in Batangas which is expected to benefit at least 4,000 informal settler families (ISFs).

DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar said the housing project located in Barangay Sambat will be composed of 16 medium rise buildings and will have amenities that include a school, a playground, a health center, and a multi-purpose hall.

Acuzar explained that the housing project was modeled after the in-city and on-site housing projects being pushed by the department.

"The housing project site is strategically located near the New Tanauan City Hall, downtown, trading post, and STAR (Southern Tagalog Arterial Road) Tollway, providing beneficiaries with easy access to job and livelihood opportunities," said Acuzar.

On Nov. 15, Acuzar and Tanauan City Mayor Nelson Collantes led the groundbreaking ceremony for the housing project following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The housing project is the first in Batangas province under the Marcos administration.

The DHSUD is eyeing to build one million housing units every year to address the 6.5 million housing backlog across the country.
