The Taiwan government donated $400,000 or around P22.9 million to the Philippines as humanitarian aid for those who were affected by Tropical Storm Paeng.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO) Representative Peiyung Hsu, on behalf of the government of Taiwan, handed over the donation to Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Chairman Silvestre Bello III on Nov. 11.
“As the closest neighbor of the Philippines, the people of Taiwan really sympathize with the victims worst affected by the Tropical Storm Paeng (Nalgae),” the Taiwan government said in a statement.
Hsu also expressed Taiwan’s sincere condolences and sympathies to the victims and their families hit by the calamity.
He added they hoped that the disaster areas will be rehabilitated and the victims will return to their normal lives as soon as possible.
“Taiwan will continue to collaborate with the Philippines on disaster prevention and climate resilience, and strengthen bilateral ties, including areas on agriculture, education, and tourism, to further enhance the well-being of both peoples,” it added.
Bello, meanwhile, thanked Taiwan for its generosity and camaraderie on behalf of the Philippines.
