The government is continuously monitoring the condition of Filipinos in Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared martial law in four Ukrainian regions Russia claimed to have annexed.
Following the announcement of the Russian-imposed military control, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Ma. Teresita Daza said the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw, Poland and the country's Honorary Consulate General in Kyiv, Ukraine have started keeping an eye on the conditions and circumstances of Filipinos who remain in Ukraine.
Currently, there are 25 Filipinos in Ukraine, but most of them are residing in Kyiv, which is not included in areas under martial law.
"The Department, the Embassy, and the Honorary Consulate General stand ready to repatriate our kababayans should they request assistance for immediate return to the country," Daza said.
In fact, in the first half of 2022, the DFA already assisted more than 450 overseas Filipinos in Ukraine, including those 400 who were repatriated to the Philippines.
