Southwesterly surface wind flow to bring scattered rains over parts of PH

(MANILA BULLETIN)

Several parts of the country may experience scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the southwesterly surface wind flow, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday afternoon, Oct. 17.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms and the southwesterly surface wind flow.

The public is advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Moreover, a gale warning is in effect on Monday afternoon as rough to very rough seas may prevail over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon because of strong winds associated with typhoon Nesat (international name), formerly Neneng, and the northeasterly surface wind flow.

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” PAGASA said.
