The Las Pinas City Prosecutor’s Office filed before the regional trial court (RTC) on Friday, Oct. 14, illegal possession of dangerous drugs against Juanito Jose D. Remulla III, son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla.
No bail was recommended for the young Remulla on violation of Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Juanito was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) last Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Las Pinas City where a parcel of marijuana kush (a high-grade variety) worth about P1.25 million was delivered.
The information (criminal charge sheet) states:
“That on or about the 11th day of October 2022, in the City of Las Pinas, Philippines, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, the above-named accused, without being authorized by law, did then and there, willfully, unlawfully and knowingly have in his possession, custody, and control, one (1) brown paper parcel with bubble wrap, containing two (2) tape-sealed transparent plastic bag, each containing four three seven point nine three (437.93) grams; and four five point nine eight (455) grams, both with a total weight of eight nine three point nine one (893.91) grams of Cannabis (Marijuana), a dangerous drug.”
The criminal charge sheet, dated Oct. 13, 2022, was signed by Prosecution Attorney Jennah Marie C. Dela Cruz, recommended for approval by Senior Assistant City Prosecutor Donald H. Macasaet, and approved by City Prosecutor Marylin Cynthia Fatima Madamba Luang.
The case would have to be raffled for assignment to an RTC judge who would determine if there is probable cause to proceed with the case.
Secretary Remulla had issued a statement and assured he will not meddle in his son’s case.
I will not (neither) intervene in nor influence my son’s predicament and I have not done so in any way,” said Remulla in his hand-written statement.
“A person should always face the consequences of his actions and I will let justice take its own course,” he added.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. had said there was no basis for the calls for Justice Secretary Remulla to resign from his post.
The President said one should only resign if they were not doing their job.
“I think the calls for him to resign have no basis. You call for somebody to resign if he’s not doing his job or that they have misbehaved in that job,” he said. “He (Secretary Remulla) has not done any of that,” he added.
The President even praised Secretary Remulla for taking no stand on the issue.
