WTFu by MR. FU: Going back to my roots

Mr. FU

I decided to finish my Communication Arts course at the University of Santo Tomas years ago (parang medyo ages ago!) because I wanted to pursue my dream of becoming a respectable broadcast journalist (di ko sure yung respect, actually more of maging on-cam talent!) It was news anchor Pia Hontinveros who gave me the opportunity to be in the news industry. (baka napilitan lang sya!) I met her during her talk at UST and asked if I could be part of ABS-CBN News.

Right after my graduation, she recommended me to news producer Ging Reyes who got me as a news researcher for The World Tonight. (baka nakulitan na lang sila sakin!)

After a year, I left the Kapamilya network to be a TV police reporter for RPN News through the recommendation of news reporter Marigold Haber. (na naging teacher ko sa USTe!)

I stayed in RPN for eight years. I was a senior reporter for the police beat, but I also had the opportunity to cover all other beats, including showbiz events! (naging all around for some time parang sarsa ni Mang Tomas!) I left RPN to be a radio jock for an FM station, which eventually opened doors for me in the TV entertainment hosting department. (rumaraket nang rumaraket ang akla!)

I enjoy my current hosting stints on radio and online (na puro ka-showbizan!) but a news organization recently offered me a new challenge, to be a news presenter for an online program. (so Madame Korina ba ito o Tita Mel?!) I honestly had doubts that I still wanted to do it. (baka naman nagpapapilit lang ako?!)  I believe I have already “graduated” from the news industry. (may diploma ba naman?!) But they convinced me that I can do it. (di ko sila ginagayuma ha! ) My initial concern was my blue hair. (yun talaga yung concern ko ha!) But they insisted that they wanted me because I will be an unconventional news anchor. (so aarte pa ba ako?!)

Last Monday, we had our pilot episode for the online newscast with a theme: “TeleTabloid.” It was a good start. It feels good to be back. I will still continue doing my radio and online shows, but the news program will now be part of my daily routine from 6am- 7am (ang aga ng call time ha!) Thank you to all the people who are giving me full support in this endeavor. I also appreciate the good feedback from netizens. (unless chinacharot lang nila ako!) Let’s rock the news and the whole universe! (para itong MR.FU with a twist! May gumaganon sa balita! )
