Marcos expected to visit France, says French envoy

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr is poised to visit France, although there is still no definite date yet when it will happen, French envoy to the Philippines has bared.

Ambassador Michèle Boccoz said "it's really too soon to say what's going to happen," but "there are exchanges at the moment."

"The teams are going to work on that I cannot tell you more... Discussions are ongoing," Boccoz told reporters Thursday night at her Manila residence, where she held a follow-up discussion on President Marcos and French President Emmanuel Macron's recent exchanges.

On Sept. 16, the two leaders for the first time talked to each other by phone, where they agreed to deepen their countries' relations in terms of low-carbon energy, food security, defense and human exchanges, the French Embassy in Manila said.

At the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Marcos Jr. and Macron also met on Sep. 21.

Boccoz did not say if there was an invitation that came from Macron during their meetings, but France is "very happy to welcome" Marcos Jr.

The diplomat said the level of preparations for the event will vary depending on the type of visit. She said, there will be more preparation if it will be official visit, and not a working visit.

And "it's even more preparations" if it is going to be a state visit, she added.
