Fifty-two persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released last September from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Friday, Oct. 7.

“From September 1 to 30, 2022, the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), Mandaluyong, released fifty-two (52) women by reason of the expiration of their sentences through GCTA (good conduct time allowance), parole, probation, and acquittals,” BuCor said in a statement.

“Under the guidance of Gerald Q. Bantag, Director General of the Bureau of Corrections, and the support of CIW Acting Superintendent, CTSSupt. Hylene C. Pancho, the CIW Management Screening, and Evaluation Committee is committed to reviewing, evaluating, and screening prison records of Persons Deprived of Liberty to ensure the timely computation of the Credit for Preventive Imprisonment and Good Conduct Time Allowance of qualified soon-to-be released PDLs under the new statute RA 10592,” it also said.

The BuCOr released 371 inmates from its prison facilities last Sept. 13 on the occasion of the birthday of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Those released include 37 female inmates from the CIW.

Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida V. Rueda-Acosta had said that BuCor is set to hold another mass release of prisoners this month of October.

“Sa Oct. 25 may schedule tayo ng pagpapalaya uli sa pangunguna ni Secretary Remulla (Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla is scheduled to lead the release of the inmates this Oct. 25),” Acosta said.

“Yung mga served sentence na, sobra na, overstaying na sila yung priority (Those who have served their sentence and those who are already overstaying will be prioritized in the release),” she added.
