Ormoc City is celebrating its 75th Charter Day Anniversary this whole month of October titled: Adlaw sa Ormoc: The Diamond Jubilee Celebration and I got to witness the start of the celebration. (daming pogi!)
I was invited to host the opening event last Oct. 2 at the Ormoc City Stage. (di ko pinilit sarili ko sa kanila ha!) Solo concerts of Soul Siren Nina and OPM legend Rey Valera were also part of the first weekend extravaganza. (na in fairness dinumog ng tao!)
Each weekend of October will feature performers like Joey Generoso, Gloc 9, Regine Tolentino and El Gamma Penumbra. There will also be a special concert by Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez and her singer-songwriter husband Ogie Alcasid. (dapat pala nag concert din ako!) City officials are bringing back Miss Ormoc pageant to be hosted by James Deakin, Ruffa Gutierrez with special participation of Ian Veneracion (sigawan mga girls and gays pag binabanggit si Papa Ian ha!)
Aside from these entertainment events, the Adlaw sa Ormoc Committee has also lined up socio-civic programs (na nilagyan ng puso at pagmamahal. Wow!) Lara Maigue and the Philippine Madrigal Singers will have a special tribute show for teachers and educators. (baka kakantahin yung “balutin mo ako…”) Sports activities will make the celebration more exciting. (dinaig yung Olympics sa dami ng kategorya!) Celebrity Basketball tournament will be one of its highlights. (baka pwede akong tagapunas ng pawis ng players!) The Local Government Unit is really living up to Ormoc’s title of Events Capital of Eastern Visayas. (kaya dapat regular host na ko dyan ha!) I really prepared for this celebration. I even asked Arsi Baltazar and Francis Libiran for a nice suit. (feeling beauty queen ako sa designer outfit!) Hairshaft Salon as usual gave me that striking styling. (di pwede magface ang turquoise na buhok!)
It was my first time in Ormoc, but I felt a special connection with the city because of the warm and gracious welcome from the Ormocanons. (kulang nalang ikiss ko sila isa isa!) Special thanks to Sir Jude Abenoja who heads the Adlaw sa Ormoc (close kami kasi sya pumipirma ng talent fee!) I also got the chance to be with colleagues like Nelson Alindogan, who served as Producer in several shows in TV5. He now heads Ormoc Tourism. (kasama rin nya rin doon mga ibang kasamahan namin noon sa production!) And of course, seeing Congressman Richard Gomez and Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez is always fun! I have worked with the couple years ago, especially Mayor Lucy. We did several shows on TV5. I consider her my goddess friend! (feeling close ako sa dyosa!)
The last time I was with Lucy was months before the pandemic. (daming naipong chika!) No wonder we were just laughing our hearts out while we were backstage. (komedyana yang si Lucy sa tunay na buhay!) And when we were on stage in front of the audience, we didn’t follow the script and just did our usual banter. (adlib na parang nagchichikahan sa kusina!)
Congratulations Ormocanons! I need to be back for your upcoming events. (this time pinipilit ko na sarili ko! ) I need to experience the “hashas” and the “pakpak” (mga salitang nakuha ko kay Mayor Lucy! Pagsasala at pagpapalakpak daw ang meaning!)
