OMG.LOL, our fun online community

What is more fun than having a domain that says OMG.LOL? Not too long ago, I found this little online service that provides an affordable personal, single-page website for anyone who loves fun (and business, too)! Anyway, I was immediately drawn to it, I mean how can you resist having .omg.lol as your personal domain?

At first glance, you may shrug it off as just as another one of those sites, until you start subscribing at US$5/year and discover what other stuff you can do. For starters, it gives you a personal domain, .omg.lol, with a full DNS record control, meaning you can have ..omg.lol. How cool is that? I don't think that I found other services at US$5/year that provides the same AND without any ads or trackers, too!

If having access to the DNS record is not your thing, your OMG.LOL subscription also includes your own e-mail forwarding, @omg.lol. Usually, e-mail forwarding does not allow you to send using that e-mail, however, if you are subscribed to Fastmail.com, you can add your omg.lol email and SEND using that e-mail address. Cool, eh?

There are other features that are bundled at no additional costs, such as your own pastebin (online clipboard), an IRC and Mastodon service (social.lol) and an upcoming statuslog page (status.lol). To top it all, it comes with an API that allows you to build using the services.

Speaking of API, personally, I started playing with the statuslog service at https://status.lol. At first, I accessed it using "curl" on my Raspberry Pi. It was really easy as the APIs are very well document at https://api.omg.lol. Once I got it working using "curl", I worked on an iOS/macOS Shortcut that will allow me to update my status. After a few tries (and a minor bug that made Shortcut fail to process the data, which was resolved very quickly), I got my Shortcut up and running. What is left for me to do is to figure out how to enter an emoji from Shortcut keyboard on Mac!
