Critical PH’s journos: ‘Either mouths gagged or lives snuffed out’ -- NUPL

An organization of lawyers on Tuesday, Oct. 4, expressed dismay over the "continued killings of journalists" in the country.

“Literally silencing critics not only by gagging their mouths but snuffing their lives out,” National Union of Peoples' Lawyers (NUPL) President Edre U. Olalia.

“It is an indictment of how intolerant powerful forces are, how unreliable and perhaps even complicit our authorities can be, and how immature our democracy still is,” he pointed out.

Olalia issued the statement in reaction to Monday night’s killing of hard-hitting radio commentator Percival Mabasa, known as Percy Lapid over DWBL radio.

He described the killing of Mabasa as “terrible” and “the usual brazenness and continuing impunity.”

Mabasa was killed in an ambush by still unidentified suspects in Las Pinas City Monday night, Oct. 3.
