Over 4,000 evacuees return home after super typhoon ‘Karding’

A total of 4,760 people safely returned home after being evacuated during the onslaught of super typhoon “Karding” last Monday, the Provincial Public Affairs Office (PPAO) reported Thursday afternoon, Sept. 29.

Katrina Anne B. Balingit, PPAO chief, said during the stay of evacuees in evacuation centers in the province, they were given family food packs (FFP) and non-food items (NFI), including emergency kits containing sleeping mats and blankets through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

Balingit said that as of Wednesday, Sept. 28, a total of 266 families were still housed at the evacuation centers in Obando, San Miguel, and Calumpit and were receiving aid from the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB).

Bulacan Gov. Daniel R. Fernando said that the PGB will not let the remaining evacuees return to their homes unless it is surely safe.

Meanwhile, “Karding” caused P415,104,207.07 worth of damage to agriculture and fisheries, according to the partial and unofficial report of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO).

Damage to livestock and poultry was pegged at P10,118,400.

PAO head Ma. Gloria SF. Carrillo said that the provincial government is conducting an ongoing on-site damage assessment to come up with a final plan to address the damages.
