Magnitude 5.3 quake recorded offshore of Surigao del Sur — Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a 5.3-magnitude earthquake offshore of Surigao del Sur on Wednesday morning, Sept. 28.

Phivolcs said the quake struck 49 kilometers (km) northeast of Cortes, Surigao del Sur at around 9:12 a.m., Wednesday.

The earthquake was felt at Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur and Intensity III (weak) in Lanuza, Surigao, del Sur.

It was also felt at Intensity II (slightly felt) in Lianga, Surigao del Sur.

Phivolcs’ instruments a;sp recorded the tremor at Intensity II in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte and Intensity I in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro and Tandag, Surigao del Sur.

Phivolcs advised the public to stay vigilant as aftershocks may occur.
