Magnitude 5.1 quake recorded offshore of Davao Occidental

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a 5.1-magnitude earthquake offshore of Davao Occidental on Sunday evening, Sept. 25.

Phivolcs said the quake struck 122 kilometers (km) southeast of Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental at around 7:16 p.m.

The earthquake was felt at Intensity III (weak) in Glan and Maitum in Sarangani and at Intensity II (slightly felt) in General Santos City and Kiamba, Sarangani.

Its instruments also recorded the tremor at Intensity II in Davao City, Davao Del Sur and Kiamba and Malungon, Sarangani.

It was also recorded at Intensity I in Maasim and Alabel in Sarangani, General Santos City, and T'Boli and Koronadal City in South Cotabato.

Phivolcs advised the public to stay vigilant as aftershocks may occur.
