Muntinlupa City offers livelihood to freed PDLs

Muntinlupa City

The Muntinlupa City government has offered to provide livelihood to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who have been released from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Bucor, in a statement, said the offer was made during the meeting between Muntinlupa City Mayor Rozzano Rufino B. Biazon and BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag.

“Malugod na tinanggap ni BuCor Director General Bantag si Mayor Biazon ng Muntinlupa City sa kanyang pagbisita sa BuCor’s Director’s Quarter upang mabigyang diin ang kooperasyon ng dalawang ahensya (Bantag welcomed Biazon during the visit of the mayor who sought to stress the cooperation between the two agencies),” the bureau said.

“Napag-usapan ang pagbibigay ng hanapbuhay sa mga nagbabagong buhay at napalaya nang PDLs (They discussed giving livelihood for PDLs who have been released and want to start over a new life),” it said.

The BuCor previously said its prison facilities nationwide had released a total of 4,461 PDLs from January up to July this year.

By the end of the year, the bureau is expected to surpass the number of 4,610 PDLs released in 2021.

The bureau has targeted the weekly submission to the Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP) 500 carpetas or prison records for release on good behavior.

Credits for good behavior under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law shorten the prison term of a PDL.
