Scattered rain showers likely over northern, central Luzon due to ‘habagat’

(MANILA BULLETIN)

Several areas in northern and central Luzon may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Habagat rains may affect the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Zambales, and Bataan.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains” in these areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
