Magnitude 4.7 quake hits Antique — Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a 4.7-magnitude earthquake in Antique province on Tuesday morning, Aug. 9.

Phivolcs said the quake struck 16 kilometers (km) southwest of Anini-y, Antique at 10:52 a.m., with a depth of 18 km.

It was felt at Intensity IV as a “moderately strong” tremor in the municipality of Anini-y.

Phivolcs noted that the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
