Batangas cop shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in San Juan town


SAN JUAN, Batangas -- A police officer was ambushed by a motorcycle-riding tandem suspects while on his way to Batangas Police Provincial Office on Sunday afternoon, August 7, at Barangay Calicanto in this town.

The BPPO reported that the victim was Police Executive Master Sergeant Romel Mapa Panopio who was assigned at the Police Provincial Office and a resident of Barangay Tipaz in San Juan town.

Based on the initial report at 3:10 p.m., the victim was driving his van on the way to the Provincial Office in Batangas City when he was attacked by the assailants.

The victim was hit on different parts of his upper body.

The local and the San Juan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) upon receiving the information responded to the crime scene and brought the victim to the District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Gladys Yupio.

The San Juan PNP put up a checkpoint on the possible escape route and made coordination with the nearby police stations for the iron curtain.

A follow-up operation was immediately undertaken for possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
