The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a 4.0-magnitude earthquake in Quezon province on Wednesday noon, August 3.
Phivolcs said the quake struck 14 kilometers northeast of Alabat, Quezon at 12:38 p.m., with a depth of 1 kilometer.
It was felt at Intensity IV as a “moderately strong” shaking in the municipality of Alabat.
Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the quake at Intensity II in Guinayangan, Quezon and Intensity I in Gumaca, Quezon.
It noted that the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
