PH welcomes high ranking in protection, promotion of human rights

The Philippines on Saturday reaffirmed its commitment to protect and promote human rights as it welcomed its high ranking in the US Department of State’s 2022 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Tier 1 ranking the country received “acknowledges its relentless and comprehensive efforts to prevent trafficking in persons, protect victims, and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous crime.”

“The 2022 Trafficking in Persons Report is an acknowledgment of the whole-of-government approach by the DFA and the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (LACAT) in their pursuit to proactively prevent trafficking in persons,” it added in a statement.

DFA also made assurance that the government will continue its work with its partners in civil society and the international community to enhance and improve policies, legislation, and mechanisms to further reduce and eliminate the crime of trafficking in persons.
