Sixteen more qualified persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released expeditiously from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte last July 23 in moves to decongest prison facilities.

Last July 14, 21 PDLs who had served their jail terms, had been paroled and had been acquitted of their criminal charges were released, DPPF said.

It said the immediate release of qualified PDLs has been the standing directive of BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag.

“The Davao Prison and Penal Farm under the Bureau of Corrections is taking concrete measures to decongest our prisons such as improving and putting up more penal facilities and fast-tracking the release of qualified PDLs,” it said in a statement.

From January 1 to May 31, 2022, DPPF had released a total of 392 PDLs.
