60 prisoners freed for good behavior

For good behavior, 60 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been released from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan.

Those freed accumulated enough credits for their release under Republic Act No. 10592, the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law, which shortens the jail term of a prisoner for good behavior.

In statement, IPPF said a culminating activity was held for the 60 PDLs last July 1.

It said that IPPF Acting Superintendent CSupt. Joel R. Calvelo reminded the released PDLs “to continue their good behavior and reformation and become law-abiding and productive citizens in the free society.”

“The continuous release of PDLs through GCTA is due to the order from Bureau of Corrections Director General Gerald Q. Bantag to all Local MSEC (Management, Screening and Evaluation Committee) to strengthen their efforts in scaling the deductible GCTA and for the swift processing of documents of PDLs qualified for release,” the IPPF said.

It said that “more PDLs are expected to be released as the MSEC continues its intensified deliberations on those due for release.”
