Filipino helper who blackmailed employer to serve sentence in Singapore prison — DFA

A Filipino domestic helper in Singapore, who reportedly pleaded guilty for threatening to leak explicit photos of her male employer, will serve her jail time there before facing deportation, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday, July 20.

"She will serve her sentence at Changi Prison," DFA told reporters.

The agency was referring to a certain Cuizon Melissa Barig, who was reported by a Singaporean media to have applied as a house cleaner there before ending up in a sexual relationship with her boss.

Singaporean media Today reported that Barig pleaded guilty for criminal intimidation when she supposedly blackmailed her boss to send the explicit photos of him to his wife if he would not give her a certain amount of money.

On July 18, the Filipina suspect was reportedly ordered to serve eight weeks behind bars after the victim sought assistance from authorities.

She will then "be deported upon release," DFA added.
