A 4.1-magnitude earthquake was detected in Davao del Sur province at around 7:53 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in an earthquake bulletin.

Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 6 kilometers (km) southwest of Matanao, Davao del Sur, at a shallow depth of 17 km.

Its instruments measured the quake at Intensity III in Malungon, Sarangani; Intensity II in Kidapawan City, Cotabato; and Intensity I in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
